A candidate for eight different world heritage sites, including the “sacred island” of Okinoshima (Munakata Daisha Okitsugu), a worship spot located in Munakata and Fukutsu city in Kitakyushu/. The possibility of its registration as a world heritage site will be discussed by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2017.
