A private school led by Yoshida Shoin at the end of the Edo period
Shoka Village School
The Shoka Village School is a private school founded by Yoshida Shoin, a famous intellectual who had a large influence on Bakumatsu loyalists and key people during the Meiji period. Visitors can view portraits and busts of Shoin inside the school, as well as the desks at which the students sat while they studied. Be sure to also pay a visit to the Yoshida Shoin Former Residence, which is a nationally designated historical site, and the Shoin Shrine which was constructed during the Meiji period.
